Metamorphisis
Our oldest daughter Madeline is continually changing before our eyes. She has gone from the first infant we brought home, and had no idea what we were doing as parents, to a little lady. She is almost 6 years old and it the best big sister. She also has a sense of humor just like her daddy and everything else like her mommy. I watch her and am amazed by her compassion and intelligence. She is reading quite well, knows basic addition and subtraction, and understands concepts that surprise me, just is starting to swim, and skis better then her mommy (o.k. so she got some other things from her daddy too!)
As most of you know we are now officially a homeschooling family. There was a lot of thought and effort that went into making this decision and it was very successful for kindergarten so we are pushing ahead and will tackle first grade in about a month. As the working parent I get to be in charge of all the fun weekend and evening projects. On a recent buisness trip I picked up a butterfly garden that had a postcard to send in for your very own painted lady caterpillars. So we watched our little caterpillars turn into big caterpillars, spin cacoons and emerge as butterflys. What a cool yet creepy process.
Once the butterflys were flapping around in their habitat we let them go in our backyard. As we were doing this Maddy said "I am kind of sad but mostly happy." I am reminded that is how I feel watching her grow up, mostly happy.
