Mackinac Island
One of the first things that I googled after moving to Indiana was "how far to Mackinac?" This has been on my top places to visit since I was a kid. One of my best friends growing up, Katie, would often visit her grandparents in Michigan. Vacations for her family meant letters in a bottle from Mackinac and when you are 12 (or 32) that is pretty cool.
We opted to take the ferry from Mackinaw city so we could drive across this huge suspension bridge. The locals refer to it as the original Big Mac.
There are no cars on Mackinac Island, just bikes and and horses. Even without motorized vehicles there were plenty of "traffic jams." Everything is so cute and picturesque!
Kelle Hampton recently visited the island and remarked that you feel like a Kennedy. That is truly the case as you spread out over huge lawns and sip tea from Adirondack chairs.
Matt and I just relaxed while the kids practiced their best gymnastics moves.
We explored the island on foot and made our way to the beaches of Northern Michigan before turning around.
Sophie even spotted her favorite saint at the local Catholic church. She has such a devotion to Saint Kateri Tekawitha as they both share the same GI struggles and tend to bump into things.
It was also my birthday! 32 is turning out pretty good so far.
